I have a fantastic set of qualifications, with APMI, master's in technical writing and plain English diploma, so why not put them to good use.
Having spent the past month checking the technical accuracy of a pensions website, I have decided that the time is right to sally forth and see if I can get some similar work.

I've WON a writers' billboard competition with 'One Summer - although it's now called Abducted by Aliens: My Summer's Work Experience. Yay, onwards and upwards!
I've also entered Costa Coffee's writing competition, and one by Five Stops - stories that are intended to be read in 5 stops of the Tube. I entered my train rant, so everything crossed that it hits the spot. Now that I've changed all my novels' titles, I suspect that the links no longer work, so will investigate. And I'm off to Fulbourne on 27th Sept to promote the writers' group Today I've made a list of things to do in order to start promoting my work. It involves learning how to use twitter & FB 'properly', which is harder than it sounds! Or does it just sound more complicated than it really is...?
Well, today I've enquired whether one of my novels would be eligible for a crime writers' competition, joined Autheronomy & submitted a chapter of Max to a site that reviews crime fiction!
I have to sell my piano to fund the continuation of the building work, so I'm going to dedicate the time I would normally spend playing my piano to writing, and promoting my work. Novel no 5 is now well underway - first chapter to be posted shortly! My house now has a roof again, yay! It's wonderful not to be so riveted to the weather forecasts!
I've finished a major writing project. With the help of my quilting wheel to cut the pages, I've produced 20 mini-novels of 1/4 A4 size, bound them and sent them off to people who might be interested in them. They are the first 3 chapters of 'Max Grave conducts some business'. So far, David Walliams' agent has sent one straight back, with a curt note...and spelt my name wrong! Hey ho, I've scattered my bread on the waters & we shall see what happens. I have also made a slow & painful start on novel no 5. After so many months spent on Max, it's a real challenge to think of some fresh characters! Some days, I think I'm winning, and others...meh. ...and hasn't had for several weeks, so I've spent evenings and weekends acting as a labourer instead of getting on with my writing.
The roofers are now booked, which is a great weight off my mind, & allows me to concentrate on my writing. I am about to try an adventurous idea to raise the profile of my work - everything crossed that it has the desired effect! I've posted nearly a chapter of Max Grave on FB, one paragraph at a time, and about a page and a half on Twitter, 140 charas at a time! Very slow work, and this week I think I will branch out into YouTube as well.
Watch this space, yay! I've also done the last newsletter of the year for the writers' group, and found a kind soul to edit our website. Just finished compiling an anthology of stories for my writers' group, which was a lot more time consuming than I'd hoped! I have also started posting novel extract every day to Facebook and Twitter...trying to increase sales on Kindle! We shall see if it works. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that.
I was hoping to finish another Max story today (third last before I start a new project) but I couldn't because the booklet took faaaaaaar longer than expected. Some of the entries had been sent as pdfs...cue lots of hard-return removing...yay! Went fishing with o/h for the first time today. Rode Trev - he's going really sweetly. Also decided to try & drum up some publicity for the books by setting up a Facebook page, Twitter account & website.
